To visit in Sarzeau, in this pretty commune adjoining Saint Gildas de Rhuys which stretches from the Gulf of Morbihan to the ocean. Le Goh Velin, your Sarzeau campsite just 30 minutes from Vannes.
Château de Suscinio – just a few kilometers from Le Goh Velin campsite, is a manor house built in the early 13th century by Pierre de Dreux, Duke of Brittany. At first, perhaps a simple “hunting lodge”! His son Jean I continued the work, but it was mainly Jean IV and Jean V of the House of Montfort, from the 14th to the mid-15th century, who added most of the castle’s defensive features. Badly damaged during the French Revolution, Château de Suscinio has benefited from a highly beneficial restoration campaign under the aegis of the Département du Morbihan, which owns it. Near your Sarzeau campsite, visit this beautiful medieval fortified castle with its 4 to 5-metre deep moat, drawbridge, walkway, curtain walls, 6 towers, loopholes and machicolations, signs of its defensive character and symbol of ducal power. Also worth seeing are the banqueting hall, the steam rooms and the magnificent pavement of the château chapel. Open April to September, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. in July and August). Magnificent sound and light show at nightfall from 9/7 to 29/8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as other events. Admission €12 for adults and €6.50 for children aged 10 to 17. Free for children under 10.
The “Notre-Dame-de-la-Côte” chapel, close to your Sarzeau campsite, Le Goh Velin, lies at the tip of Penvins. Its seafront location makes it a real postcard landscape. The current building is said to have been rebuilt on the ruins of an earlier chapel.
The Château de Kerlevenan overlooks the Gulf of Morbihan. Built at the end of the 18th century by the Marquis de Gouvello, who wanted to bring a little bit of Italy back to Brittany. Privately owned, the château cannot be visited, but unlike its listed park, which boasts numerous species of trees, a “Temple of Love” transformed into a family chapel and a small Chinese music pavilion. Pleasant and open from 1/7 to 15/9 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Price 3€.
