Le Goh Velin ideally located is a campsite close to Quiberon. A day spent visiting this peninsula can be an opportunity to discover its tourist side as well as its wild and original side.

An ancient island

The peninsula is joined to the mainland by an isthmus 100 meters wide at its thinnest. Quiberon was an island in the 10th century, and is likely to become one again in a few decades’ time as the sea rises.

The wild coast

Le Goh Velin, your campsite 78 km from Quiberon, famous for its landscapes and wild coastline. The 8 km west coast offers a succession of sandy beaches and cliffs. Very pleasant in summer, this side of the coast has of the coast has remained wild exposed to winter winds and storms. Be sure to visit the Porte de Beg en Aude, Pointe de Percho, Port Blanc and Port Bara beaches. Please note that swimming is only permitted on the eastern side of the Presqu’île.

The Kerbourgnec Enclosure

Despite the surrounding buildings, 41 stones remain to make up a Cromlech(a group of standing stones generally arranged in a circle), ranging in size from 0.80 m to 1.20 m.
On the other side of the Moulin de Saint-Pierre are the Kerbourgnec alignments, more than 23 menhirs that today extend into the sea. The largest of these menhirs was named Général De Gaulle.

Other monuments to visit during your stay near the Quiberon peninsula, the Grand Dolmen de Crucunothe remains of a corridor tomb. Only the burial chamber has been preserved. The capstone measures 6 metres and weighs around 40 tonnes. It is supported by 9 granite pillars.

Château Turpault

Originally christened Château de la Mer by Georges Turpault, Château Turpault is an English manor house built in 1904 in the middle of the Landes.

Penthièvre Fort

Classified as a historic monument since 1933, Fort de Penthièvre was entrusted to the 3rd Marine Infantry Regiment of Vannes and has been used as a commando training center since 1969.
Following the English landing on the Quiberon peninsula in 1746, General Saint-Clair’s soldiers established the first entrenchments.
The Duke of Penthièvre, Admiral of France and Governor of Brittany, ordered the fortification of the promontory of the present-day fort. Monsieur de Marolles, the king’s engineer, built the “redoubt” (fortification system) at Quiberon, later known as Fort de Penthièvre. From the Consulate to the July Monarchy, it took on its current form as a Vauban-style fortification. With its outer and inner moats, outer glacis, sentry walk and defensive barracks capable of housing 400 men, the Fort took on its current form in 1845. During the Second World War part of the Atlantic Wall with 3 bunkers. In 1944, 59 patriots were executed here.
